St. Clare Home looks after the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the elderly of our community as a health care agency of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. Established in 1927, St. Clare Home is a 47-bed skilled nursing facility located in the heart of Newport, RI offering the highest quality care to our residents.
In addition to 24-hour nursing care, St Clare Home provides a variety of recreational activities to suit the physical, social, and emotional needs of our residents, delicious meals prepared by our own chefs, housekeeping and laundry services, medical social services, and dietary and rehabilitative consultations and treatments. St Clare home is a member of CareLink and a not-for-profit, non-sectarian community.
Our mission is rooted in the work of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and that of St. Clare herself – to improve the quality of life for our family and community through care and service. St. Clare Home is a health care agency of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. In 2009, Diocesan outreach programs served more than 447,367 individuals in Rhode Island in its various hospitals and ministries, providing services, assistance and advocacy to those who need it most.
The Diocese is a geographic delineation for a community of more than 624,120 Roman Catholics who worship in the 150 parishes and shrines. There are 413 priests (277 diocesan priests and 123 religious priests), 103 deacons, 508 religious sisters and 89 brothers serving in the Diocese. More than 16,259 children attend the Diocese’s 51 elementary and high schools. The Diocese itself is comprised of more than 221 individual corporations representing our parishes, offices and agencies.

Chris is a lifelong Newport resident and an active and devoted member of the St Clare family. He is a practicing attorney and government relations consultant who received his bachelor’s degree from Providence College and his juris doctor from Suffolk University. Mr. Boyle represented the City of Newport in the Rhode Island General Assembly from 1981 to 1993 and was a member of the House leadership team serving as Majority Whip from 1988 to 1993. He has served on the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education, the Rhode Island Clean Water Finance Agency, the Board of Directors for Rhode Island Labor Studies and Research, the Edward King Senior Center, and People’s Credit Union. Mr. Boyle currently serves on the board of the Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund and Sail Newport.

Robinson Design Inc. is a firm of architects and engineers that primarily specializes in the design of buildings for the elderly and multi-family housing. RDI’s staff is lead by John Robinson, who is both a Registered Architect and a Registered Professional Engineer. Over the past twenty-five years he has designed more than 40 facilities for the elderly, ranging in size from $500,000 to $9,000,000. He is a founding member of the American Institute of Architects Design for Aging Network, and has served on teams of Environmental Gerontologists to evaluate long-term care physical settings and design model facilities for the elderly.
Spencer McCombe, AIA, brings 16 years of experience to RDI, working for four years in the Milwaukee area and then the last twelve years in the Newport area. His responsibilities include the full range of professional architectural services from the initial design sketch all the way through the coordination of the interiors specification. He has had extensive experience in specific areas of the profession including: historic district commissions, zoning and planning boards, coast and flood zone buildings, historic tax credits, and energy efficient design.
